I have windows media player on a win98se system. Whenever I try to download an .avi formatted file I am not able to play back the file. I believe that I do not have this codec or what-not installed on my computer. Would I be able to install a codec off my win98se installation disk or is there an alternate place I should look to find a download... I hve checked microsoft and I was unable to find one thanks

ok first, when you try and play back the files and are unable, does Media Player tell you why it cant play that file? if so, whats it say?

2. do these files have a Media Player icon? if not, the files are not associated with Media Player. you will need go into Media players options and check your setting are set right (NOT sure wich).

3. whats "codec"?

forgive me, im young. Jiggy

Microsoft is not the place to get the codecs.

Try here and get the Nimo codec pack. A few video files have very unique codecs so some searching about might be necessary. There are utilities that will identify the necessary codec.
