hey all -

i've a problem with my friends machine. he just installed AOL 6.0 and instantly Internet Explorer stopped working. as soon as IE opens a page fault error message appears and the program shuts down. i went in and uninstalled everyting that had to do with america online. now, IE will open but just stays at a blank screen. i tried to reinstall IE but got an error message stating that "VERSION.DLL is unable to open". anyone have any idea on what could be going on? i did noticed that in the IE setup program's properties there is a digital signature with AOL. also, when the setup program opens "America Online" appears in the title bar?? is there any way to install just IE without reinstalling windows or maybe just replaced the version.dll file? any help would be very appreciated.

thanks,
bryan

Hello Bryan,
If you go into "Add/Remove Programs" and select IE to remove, you will be presented with an option to repair it.
Go that route and see how it goes.

As for using IE(which version) and AOL6, you really shouldn't have any issues. I use this setup every day with both open at the same time.
I would recommend running AOL's "webutility", which can be found thru their "search."
You might also check for any updates to IE thru Windows Update (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/) .

Good luck http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/cool.gif

i've looked in add/remove programs and Internet Explorer (version 5.0) doesn't appear. I've also run IE and AOL together without any problems in the past. I can't run Windows Update since I get get into any browswer (I do have connectivity to my default gateway though). Any idea on what the deal with this digital signature witihin the IEv5 setup.exe is?
