Running Win95. On April 17, I download the free AVG 6.0 anti-virus program. Installed it that same day and configured it to scan my registry upon boot-up. Everything appeared to be going well until today. Upon boot-up I received the registry error warning box. I restarted the computer a number of times hoping the registry would reinitialize itself. It didn't. I suspected the culprit was AVG. I uninstalled the program using their uninstall file.. After rebooting I began getting messages saying the system.ini file indicated that two device files could not be found. They are C:\ProgramFiles\Grisoft\Avg6\AvgCore.vxd and AvgFsh.vxd. I double checked the add/remove applet to make sure AVG had been removed. It was still there. I removed it from the applet. Then I used another software cleaner program to double check on AVG again. It was still there. I removed it, but probably just the name. Eventually after performing some tasks I don't even want to cope to, I went to DOS and deleted all files and directories relating to the program, including the downloaded executable file. I keep those in a seperate downlaod folder. To make a long story short before you all nod off, I'm still getting the same missing device file message upon boot-up. Eventually I get to Windows and everything seems to work normally. Any suggestions, besides get out of the business.

You need to run sysedit
then remove the lines in your system.ini that call the AVG program

You may also find a command line in win.ini that also calls AVG

and or the start menu
