I have just hand built the following system-Main board - Jetway 663ASPRO
Processor - AMD Duron 750
Video - Jetway nVIDIA M64/32MB AGP
DRAM - 1x128MB PC133
HDD - 13GB Maxtor
SCSI - Adaptec AHA 1501 SCSI Adapter Host
Modem - Diamond SupraExpress 56i PRO V CC
I have correctly installed the mainboard drivers for sound and the VIA IDE patch. Also the vid card is correctly installed including drivers and working ok. The whole system is generaly ok but when my internet connection is broken the pc stops responding?
I have tried everything...re installing to a fresh formatted (+ FDISK'd) HDD, all drivers and patches. I have tried everything in Bios including the latest up dates (not a week old as I type). I have tried different versions of IE, currently using IE5. I have tried Win 98 and ME, a different PCI vid card. There are no conflicts on the board. I can only think that the modem is playing up somehow....but how? I havnt been able to get hold of a differnt modem to try yet. , Im going mad..Please help!

I think you have narrowed it down yourself. Does the device manager indicate a problem with the modem? I found this on a modem help site
*I have a problem with my new modem. I tried to install it under Red-Hat 5.2 but it doesn't work. My modem is an internal Diamond Supra Express 56i V PRO and under W98 the default configuration is irq 12 an I/O port 0x3e8. Under W98 it works perfectly and i don't think this is a "winmodem"(isn't it?). Windows "says" that under DOS it must be configured with: COM 3, irq 4 and I/O port 0x3e8 (/dev/ttyS2 isn't it?)*
Not sure if it is any help though...hang in there http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
