View Full Version : IE loops at entry to SSL

I use about six different URL's that employ SSL 128 when going from http: to https: as part of logon.
About 40% of the time everything goes OK but about 60% of the time it goes into a send/receive loop just after I give the OK to the "entering secure" message. If I STOP the transmission after about 10 seconds (either with the STOP icon or the ESC key) it takes about two and one-half minutes for the loop to clear before I can do anything else. Usually works OK within 2 to 4 tries.
Running: WIN95, IE5.5, Cookie Crusher, CA anti-virus, dial-up 33.6 modem.
Problem started several weeks ago and not related to hardware changes, and, as well as I can tell, is not related to software changes. Clearing IE buffer or restarting IE makes no difference.

Thanks for any help.

I've seen this problem at work and I belive there is a bug in one of the IE updates ,since other systems without the updates or with 56 bit encryption seem to work fine. (it proably some type of compatabitly problem between IE and the websites using 128 SSL.) For us it only happens with one web site. Sadly it's a partners website that one or 2 folks must accesses and the problemn started after they issued an "upgrade your IE to 128 bit in order to access this site" notice. )

I tried updating to the lastest version of IE (IE6) but that didn't work possible because the encrption level was the same. So I ended up setting up a workstation with IE5 and 56 bit encryption. That worked and allowed them to access a site that ,according to the IT dimwits at our partner's company, should only allow 128 bit connections.

This proably doesn't help solve your problem. But at least you'll have some idea what's going on.
