Hi,
I have acquired different versions of "Adobe:Acrobat" as they have been offered with various applications. I would like to remove the early
versions so that I am left with the latest version only.
1. Is this sensible, or are there some snags?
2. What is the latest version, and how can I download it please?
Thanks
Ray

If you just want the Adobe Acrobat reader, you can go to Adobe's web site at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/ (http://http://) to download the latest version for free. If you're installing any kind of software and one of the choices in "custom install" mode is to install the acrobat reader, I recommend unclicking it and just getting the latest version from the above link. If you're talking about the Adobe Acrobat program that converts documents to pdf format, that'll cost ya. When installing an update to any program, 9 times out of 10 it will look for a previously installed version on your computer and uninstall/update it, so you don't really have to uninstall it first. Some folks prefer to uninstall previous versions of software thru the control panel, and sometimes the software will recommend that you do that first too, so make sure you read installation instructions first. Hope this helps.

If you do get the newest (5.05) don't forget to grab the patch while you're there...

pentachris,
When I d/led Reader, I recall two choices. One was a bit more elaborate with a longer d/l due to the additional functions. I elected the shorter version. Do you know for which this patch applies?

It depends on whether you downloaded 5.0 or 5.0.5. I'm not exactly sure when 5.0.5 was released, but I'm pretty sure it was this year, before March. (March is when the patch for 5.0.5 was released).
The longer download you refer to includes the option for searching PDF files and accessibility support. Only one of the patch fixes is specific to these functions.
If you have 5.0, you don't have to download the whole thing over again to get 5.0.5. Download an update to your existing installation (and see the information about it) here (http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/update.html).
