I have a zsystems adm athlon 650mg. this problem has been going on for months and seems to be worse . the computer totally looses power any time it wants. Suprised I got this far!!! I ve changed outlets, unplugged from the power strip.I have not changed anything recently. I tried to run scandisk and it shuts off, defrag and the same. I have recenly been able to run them last night without interruption, but all day the computer kept shutting off sometimes immediatly and 2 minutes.... now It just let me do all this and will wait to aggravate me . some times if I scroll with my mouse or try to open someting or send it , it does it then too..... HELP!!!

Heat or faulty power supply.

Try running the computer with the case cover removed and a small fan blowing inside. If it works right, you have a heat problem. If not, I'd bet your power supply is on the fritz.

Also, while you have it open, (and shut down) clean out all the dust inside. I use a soft camera brush, and some people use a small vaccuum to pick up all the dust, but be very careful you don't suck up any jumpers. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif Clean out the fins of the heatsink on the CPU, and the airholes on power supply, all the cards, etc. But be careful! Make sure you reattach the CPU fan before turning it back on.

While it's running, check the CPU fan and power supply fan to be sure they do run. A secondary case fan might be a good idea, if it doesn't have one. Ground yourself, then hold your finger on the heatsink. You should be able to hold your finger on it for at least 10 seconds, while running, or it's too hot. Be careful what you touch. The voltage is 12V DC or less, and not dangerous, but you can cause damage if you happen to move a card or memory chip and disconnect it even briefly.

Is your computer usually running inside an enclosed cabinet in a desk? That would decrease airflow, always leave the door open while running it. If necessary put a small fan in front to blow inside and circulate air.
