MS Outlook hanging

hi... its been happening a lot where MS outlook just hangs while checking mail...why is this so? it keeps on doing this so i have to uninstall it and then reinstall office once more...it happened with outlook 2000 and now with outlook bundled with ms office xp...why? is this a common problem?

I doubt if this applies, but my uncle was complaining of the same problem with Outlook Express. It turned out to be a Norton AntiVirus setting causing serious "slowdown" in getting mail.

I was having a problem with OE doing the same or worse (actually crashing) whenever it encountered an email from a specific spammer. It took using a different email app to figure it out, that way I was able to clear the mail in my account...it took three or four tries to figure out the offending piece of garbage, but once that was done no more problems.

You may want to check with another app, because if the all messages are not being downloaded from the server, if it is a single message causing the problem, it will still be there to cause the problem the next time you try.

i share the same sentiments... well i dont use norton. but my ISP enables me to check my mail online via the web aside from downloading into outlook....it works fine over the net...but it seems to crash.....just 1 month ago....so ive been checking mail using the net ever since. queer.

is there any way to detect the spammer? i guess my ISP can arrange certain mails to be rejected right?
