AMD Athlone 800 - 512MB - XP - IE6 - Any download manager

Can someone explain why when I use a download manager (like DAP) I cannot surf the web properly? I usually have to refresh the page a couple of times to get it to load. Sometimes I have no success (This happens EVERY time I try to open up Google or a google link) when I user a download manager. I have no problems when I am not downloading and can open up multlple pages then. It is becoming more and more irritating (gritting my teeth does no good - dentist says he cannot keep making me new wallies) http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

I have a choice- Surf or download. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/mad.gif

Ernie; does any download manager include the one inside Opera? I don't have good bandwidth here at the moment, but I find it the best combination for surfing, "googling", eMailing and downloading simultaneously and from within a single application. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

Paul
I took Opera back of as I could not control my favourites \ bookmarks the way I wanted, but am thinking of putting it back on again to see if it makes any difference.

Sea
Full make up as follows:
Dual boot - 98 - Xp - AMD Athlone 800 - 512MB ram - Gygabyte GA-IXE4 Mobo
- ATI Radeon (Vivo) 32MB - 30Gb HDD - Ricoh CD-RW - Pioneer DVD - Internal Iomega Zip 100 - SCSI scanner (snapscan310 - 3 years old and works great under XP with originalk drivers and software, though have to have it installed under Ohter devices as opposed to a scanner)

Runs not to bad, though I do not put it to its full use. It is the first full one that I have I built, as oppose to scrounging bits and pieces from where ever I could lay my hands on them. Had it for about 10-11 months now. At the time, the difference in price between buying the components and building myself and purchasing pre-built was about £300.00 cheaper. Would not hesitate to recommend someone go this way. A great feeling when It was up and running.

Ernie. I use both IE/OE and Opera. Both have advantages/disadvantages but I always have a backup program to fallback on. Also if, say, sites or mail servers are hard to access using both applications it helps isolate, where the fault lies. As for favorites; I collect them all onto Linkman (which I went ahead and purchased after trying it out) and use it to manage bookmarks.

Paul, Re Opera:

Are u saying that Opera incudessome sort of down load manage?

I use the no-problems Internet Download Manager on IE6, but it doesn't seem to work in Opera - as, sadly, does not the excellent Roboform.

I want to get away from my IE6 browser, but for transferabilty of software and Hotmail, the best I've come up so far, don't laugh at me, I'm a fool, is MSN Explorer!

Opera has p;enty going for it and it's certainly fast!! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Yes. Opera can download, retransfer and pause/resume.
