Help - my PC's screen has frozen on the 'welcome to windows' logo/flag - it's been like this for the past month. All the power seems to be running normally and no new software has been added. Ctrl + Alt + Del doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions beyond a sledgehammer and a trip to obtain a new PC??
Cheers

With so little info about your system specs, it's hard to diagnose this. If you're running WinMe, you need to be sure you have the latest drivers for all your add-on cards, especially the video card. Are you overclocking anything?

Thank you tjaymadison & Randy_tx. I'm not v technical, but as far as I can remember:
the PC is approx 2 years old & running windows 95. Up until now it's worked OK. I suspect the 10-year old has downloaded a game from the web or disk. I think ram is 64mb with 10gb hard disk. My guess is that the processor is 500-ish mghz? Am unsure of any other spec - yep lost the book long ago! Sorry I'm so vague any help appreciated.

You might try this.......when you FIRST turn on the computer...after it counts the ram.....Push F8 several times until a screen comes up with several options......one of the options is "Safe mode".......choose it. IF your computer will go into safe mode.......go to My Computer > highlight the "C" drive with a right click.....go to Properties and select TOOLS.........run scandisk and then shut down and reboot the computer to see if it will properly boot....Post back here what happened.

Thanks - have tried the F8 option. Got to the menu and hit safe mode. Lots of action & then a box to say 'windows is by-passing set up files' and then ... a whole lot of nothing! Have tried this several times with the same result. So the next question is 'If my machine DOESN'T start in safe mode ....'
