Every time i shut down, it shuts down normally but does not show me
"It is now safe to turn off your computer"

And i just manually turn it off.

Thanks

This is the full problem
I last week formatted the C drive and installed windows 98 2nd edition. On the PC previously was windows 95. All works well except when I go Start. Shut Down. On the screen is windows display. And says "windows is shutting down" but it does not. You can wait for 10 minutes. The computer is still running. When no little light is flashing I switch it off and it is okay to start again without the shut down incorrectly bit coming up. It used to say before in windows 95. "Now it is safe to shut your computer off".

This is a known issue with Windows 98. When you start up your computer does it do scan disk. As I too have a computer with Win 98se and it hangs
on the windows shutting down screen.

Computer still works fine has been like this for 9+ months.
Have not seen a fix for this from Microsoft yet.

Well......If none of the sites above do the trick....at least you can eliminate the Scandisk after a bad shutdown if you want....Go to Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information....then click the "Advanced" box lower right of first screen........It has an option to "Disable Scandisk after bad shutdown"....that will save ya some time; however, I still run scandisk about every other day anyway.
