Every time I boot up my pc, I get the following message while starting...

Please wait while Setup updates your configuration files.

This may take a few minutes . . .

Windows could not upgrade the file

from

:

Windows could not upgrade one or more system files before starting.
Windows may not start or run properly.

If Windows fails to start, run Setup again.

Press any key to continue

When I press any key everything works fine. I used the 'system file checker' to see if any system files are lost or corrupted. Some were, but were fixed but still I get that message. I have Norton run a scan on my system once a week and I update every week or so. What could be the cause of this problem?

Try this : ( I recently found out about this file while helping another user of this forum)

Do a "find" for a file called wininit.ini rename this file to wininit.old and reboot your system. The file may be hidden and read only so be sure to set your explorer prefences to view all files and change the attribute.

Winit is the part of a install routine that changes or adds to the windows system files. Anytime you install a program reboot and run disk doctor to make sure all the files are cleaned up.
