Is there a website of file share?
For example able to search the net for files and documents and download them without running a seperate program.

I am not talking about the software programs you can download and run as standalone application on a PC.

AudioGalaxy was kinda similar. It was almost an IE plug-in.

But I don't anything like that that's purely web-based exists. And if it did, you could be sure that the music industry would make every effort to shut it down quickly.

My interest is note for music, purely out of curiousity ;)

Nope, Audio Galaxy is down as far as I know. It installed spyware anyway, as did most of the file sharing apps.

I don't think you'll find anything that will be reliable...or here next week...

FTP sites require no additional software.

www.audiogalaxy.com

AudioGalaxy Satellite is its own program, but the "work" that you do searching for and choosing your downloads) is through IE. So like I said, it's almost like an IE plug-in.

Not only is it spy (http://www.tom-cat.com/cgi-bin/spybase/spybase.cgi?view_records=1&name=^A|^A&re=1&sb=4&so=ascend&nh=7) - ware (http://www.audiogalaxy.com/info/userAgreement.php?SID=b613361bed733bb4963d4e2a3fc2 a731&SID=b613361bed733bb4963d4e2a3fc2a731#privacy), but your username and password are transmitted in plaintext through IE as part of the url (that's how it was when my old housemate used it, anyway).

edit: can someone tell me why that second hyperlink isn't working? is it because of the "=" in the url?

Pentachris,

That second link is probably broken because of the piping character "|".

Oops, that was in the first link..........maybe about the "=".

Right here:

fc2a731& SID=b61336

Look between & and S...there's a space there. Take that space out and it goes to the Audio Galaxy Privacy Policy.

Audio Galaxy Privacy Policy (http://www.audiogalaxy.com/info/userAgreement.php?SID=b613361bed733bb4963d4e2a3fc2 a731&SID=b613361bed733bb4963d4e2a3fc2a731#privacy)

See if that one works...

I thought Audio Galaxy was shut down, apparently I was mistaken...and I notice that they didn't say in the EULA that it is also suspected spyware...according to the Tom Cat (http://www.tom-cat.com/cgi-bin/spybase/spybase.cgi?view_records=1&name=^A|^A&re=1&sb=4&so=ascend&nh=7) Spyware list. The older version was confirmed...

They are all but shut down. They can't offer any music that is copyrighted. :( Know of any good music that ain't copyrighted ?

Copyright rules are complicated and vary depending where you are but I think (in the US) that composers lose their copyright 70 years after death. Mozart should be OK! ;)

For software go to www.filemirrors.com at the top right you will see a search entry.. enter your search and be sure to select "contains" for a better search result..as for Mp3's on the web i have came across a few but there the endless merry-go-round "vote for me" sites and its just not worth the time ..and you probably will just pick up a virus or dialer on the way..to get any music id suggest WinMX its under a MB and no spyware..but downloading new material can be a joke at times..Kazaa is still the best at anything like that today and if you grab the hacked version called Kazaa Lite you can enjoy it without spyware.
