Just wondering what game all you gamers are focusing your attention on at the moment.
For me, Ghost Recon: Desert Siege
Also what is/are your all-time favorite(s)?
For me, I really enjoyed No One Lives Forever, among many others.
I never thought I would be a gamer. Always was a bit of a SNOB about the whole idea. Then, one summer, my brother introduced me to a game. The addiction started!! Struggled with the shame and humility for a month or two, but am now out of the closet. Mom, I AM A VIDIOT!!!
Another embarrassing note, the game that my brother introduced me to was the first Delta Force. Oh brother!! ;)

I play many games at once because alas, one cannot contain everything I love about games. Been playing a lot of Dungeon Siege recently, experimenting with different things, still have to DL the editor, too. Beautiful game, just goes to show what a true 3D RPG can be, even tho it lacks depth. And then there's my usual romps with AoE, AoE II, Starcraft, Red Alert 2, and Empire Earth to satisfy my RTS side. Can't forget the good shooters like NOLF, C&C Renegade, and Elite Force. Still have to find all the ways to beat Fallout 2, still working through Arcanum, and as always, I play UT weekly. :D
Although, I have also been getting into a little shareware RPG called Avernum. Quite addicting little title for anyone who was weened on the Wizardry games of yore. www.spiderwebsoftware.com/
I also have QIII Arena/Team Arena, but I like UT better. The two styles of gameplay really are different. I can see why most people like one or the other. QIII just seems too much like a gib-fest, whereas UT fosters teamplay more intuitively. Just preference really, but that's my opinion.

I too am a relative new-comer to 3d games, having just bought Unreal Tournament a week ago.
The damn thing is so addictive that my wife how soon I'll turn the lounge room into a UT playground.
There are not many good 3d games I can play due to lack of serious hardware, but UT runs superbly.
I'm now keen to give Half Life (& its offshoots) a shot (pun intended!)

I've played Rogue Spear and NOLF {offline only}....but I really am addicted to UT...in two clans now one for reg grav, zero-ping, Capture The Flag, Instagib..I'm the IG team Captain for that one....and the other is Low Grav 135 speed reg Instagib CTF. Involved in two leagues OGL and IGL :)
I just can't seem to get into the others...I do download the demo versions and check em out though...thankful for cable..them demos keep getting larger in file size. RTCW, MOHAA, DFLW2, Alice and some others I've tried.
Anyone getting psyched for UT23K? (or whatever they call it now..LOL)
Edit: Just saw where Saphalline brought up the new UT :o
You can see me online in UT as NLA*Spaz or -)AO(-*Spaz :D
And for anyone interested in tweaks and tons of info on UT just PM me and I will pass on some links :)

I'm into Diablo 2 Lord Of Destruction (mode Ancestral Recall) and Unreal Tournament. Got my 10 year old son into gaming at the age of 6. He's into UT and anything else he can get his hands on. I've created a gaming monster. His gaming skills are a couple levels above mine now. Bass that clan for UT sounds very interesting to bad I don't have cable. I think my son might be able go pro. :)

DIABLO II: LORD OF DESTRUCTION might be my fave game ever. I always go back to it. The beauty of course now is just finding better, rarer equipment and trying to build new characters. And I should mention I normally play Single Play, not the online version. But with this faster computer (I got a new one today), I might go back to the online version and see how that goes for me. And of course HALF LIFE: Team Fortress Classic.

I don't play too many multiplayer games or well ones of the teamup variety. I do play UT sometimes and always death match. I really hate lookin where I shoot when I see someone :D I just got done with Morrowind about a week ago and it still really hasn't sunk in that I actually finished the game. It is by far the best RPG created IMHO. Its easy to pick up yet difficult to master, their is a decent support forum although morrowind.com is very flaky during peak. Right now I am playing Baldurs Gate Throne of Bal, working on Shadows of Amn part. Was playin this for awhile but had errors in many cases, this was the first sign my MOBO was going south, somethin I completely missed. So I started over and workin through it. It is pretty fun although due to the micro-managing necessary can be a pain to play. What I don't appreciate either are the bosses of the various areas using blatant cheats in combat or to prep for combat. I bought an AD&D game, I want to play by AD&D rules and I expect the enemy to be forced to do the same. It is taking me longer to solve but that makes the romances go on and I am looking for overall gameplay, not a hack n slash. Another staple is Sports Car GT with the Trans-Am patch applied. I'll never drive one of those beasts but its fun to get immersed in it :D

Game of the minute has to be Counter Strike multi, Single player games, HalfLife, Opposing Force, GTA (And sequels), Drvier 1&2.
But my all time favourites (Going back a few years to the Amiga 600, remember them?) have to be Cannon Fodder, Frontier (Elite 2) and Sydicate (the original version).
Jeez, those were the days, Doom had just been released, Nintendo and Sega were doing their console war thing (Comparable to Xbox, GameCube and PS2 are now), my how far we've come since then!!!
Going back even further to the old Spectrums, does anyone remember Frenzy, Jet Pack Jack and Moon Lander? Those were the days!!!
(I feel sooooooo old now)

I gotta try Counter Strike. Wherever I go people say it's awesome. I played Half-Life and that was pretty good also Ages of Empires, Quake .
My PC hardware probably will not handle any of the new games. I plan on getting a new PC system along with a high speed connection so I should be back pretty soon to ignoring my family and spending some late nights down in the basement.
Right now I am playing Red Faction, Spiderman, and Tony Hawk3...all on PS2. Little disappointed with Red Faction.... but I got it for $20. I plan to get Medal of Honor and SOCOM for PS2 when it comes out.

I can't get enough of Jedi Knight 2.I am playing it through for the fourth time now! It has been a long time since I have found a game that I enjoy this much! My first time through it was the least enjoyable.I thought the obscure puzzle solving was annoying. But now that they have been figured out,I can relax with the game and focus on the fun parts, like mastering the controls and engaging in lightsaber duels.
I am talking the single player boxed game.I haven't begun to get into the multiplayer or any of the mods.
I am surprised that UT is still so popular.I use to play it a lot online a year or so ago.Great game!

Okay, what a great thread, and now I'm gonna totally humiliate myself because I'm curious. And frustrated. Anyone who reads this, please be patient.
First, the only computer game I've really gotten addicted to is Freecell, right after it was included on Win95. My wife was really getting worried about me. Only play occasionally now.
Second, and this is what's embarrassing, the only "games" I play regularly are not games, but sims, like Flight Simulator, Train Simulator, Motocross Madness II, even had MS Golf99. They're all Microsoft games, and on the one hand, that somehow seems so bland in a Bill Gates sweater-and-glasses persona talking about the future of computing in that squeaky voice kind of way, if you know what I mean. Plus, it's money to the evil empire. At the same time, they are beautifully rendered, I had an extremely attentive tech work with me over several weeks via email on a rather subtle performance problem in FS2002, and MMadness is a gas. But most important, they were relatively easy to learn in the sense that I can pretty quickly have some fun and enjoy myself, and this gets me to my last point.
Third, how do people find the time to learn these games? I mean, I just built my first computer, one helluva gaming machine, and I feel like I'm wasting it. I go out and treat myself to a new game, something different, I buy Black and White at a good price, very popular game, strategic, non-Microsoft, and it drives me nuts because I can play maybe twice a week as my work and family schedule preclude otherwise, and the learning curve just seems too steep, and I'm already bored with it, frustrated, impatient. It's like I don't have the time to get good, constantly having to relearn the same keystrokes, etc. I'd like to try some 1st-person shooters, CounterStrike, the Tom Clancy game, stuff like that. I mean, I'm really a closet killing machine. So, here are my questions:
Am I just stupid? Maybe I'm PC Game-impaired.
Do you just have to invest the time in one or two games and then those skills transfer to other games? Are there a couple of good games to start with?
Does anyone else have the same experience?
Maybe I'm too old. Ah, I don't want to go there.
Thanks.

Warcraft 3, Renegade and Railroad Tycoon.
Just got in Warcraft 3, it seems really polished not that I would expect anything less from Blizzard. The missions all seem easy enough set on Normal difficulty [maybe I should bump 'em up to hard]. The skirmishes against the computer are really tough, haven't beat 'em yet.

Having time to play games is a real issue with most gamers who are busy in the real world. As for me, I have cut out TV entirely. That is the only way I can make the commitment to play games. And make no mistake,it is a commitment.A good game will take up hours of your life, bringing it to completion.
That is a fact that I had to come to terms with.I think it would be tough if I had a spouse, making the time I mean.I am a single parent, single parenting an 11yo son.He is demanding on my time for sure.During school I do most of my gaming after he has had dinner, homework is done, and he is keeping himself occupied, or has already gone to bed.
Another way I find gaming time is if I get myself up early during the work week.that way I have an hour or so in the morning before I start getting us ready to get us out the door.
For a living I work outside.I wash windows and I am outside a lot,all year long, and not just when the weather is nice.During the winter months I try keeping busy with power washing walkways and driveways and cleaning out house gutters. After that kind of work, I have little problem spending my free time in front of a computer or with a gaming console.
Anyway, that is how this gamer finds the time to game. Also,I don't think Black & White is a very fun game.If you find it less than fun,you are probably in the majority.Once the novelity of petting and training your creature wears off, the game plays like an express from Dullsville. But that is just my opinion. :)

You bet gaming is time consuming!! I just picked up a game in the bargain bin, Deus Ex, and I've been up until 6 am playing this thing. The gameplay is incredible!! A good mixture of first person shooter and RPG.
I'm a teacher, so during the summer I have nothing but time, and this allows me to feed my addiction. As Saphalline said before, there are so many things about gaming that are enjoyable.
I find some games ridiculously difficult too and not much more than a practice in aggravation. Each game has its own learning curve, some steeper than others. If you find yourself getting frustrated and annoyed, I suggest putting that game aside for a while and trying something a little lighter and more enjoyable.
Anyone else here have a go at Deus Ex? What did you think?

I have to chime in as one of the thousands of Counter-Strike junkies. I've gone totally without sleep on more occasions than I care to admit. I'm an old-school gamer, having grown up on the TEXT version of Oregon Trail for the "TRaSh-80" and Pac-Man. I recently acquired both Warcraft III and Neverwinter Nights, but haven't gotten a chance to play them yet. I've been playing a lot of Starcraft lately...
And if you haven't played the first Grand Theft Auto on a LAN, then you've missed out. God, those were the days.
As for the future, I fully intend to addict myself to Counter-Strike: Condition Zero, the second coming of the popular online game, and Star Wars Galaxies (Basically EverQuest in the realm of Star Wars).
I guess I'll stop there...my coffee cup's gone empty.
Game till you drop. Sleep is for the weak.

Odd as it might seem, right now the game I'm playing the most is a golden oldie, Sid Meier's "Colonization". I think I may have a Civ 3 session tomorrow, though - I installed Steve Strayer's "Fascism Patch" (Civ 2 gamers will probably recall that mod as one of the all-time best mods for Civ, because it not only replaced Fundamentalism with Fascism, but fixed a LOT of minor and not-so-minor bugs and errors, cleaned up the graphics and generally just made Civ 2 twice as good as it already was, which is saying a heck of a lot, really. The beauty of Civ 2, in fact, and that's why it's probably my all-time favorite PC game, is that it's so massively customizable - I have seen mods and scenarios on various Civ sites for just about every historical and fictional setting one can think of.
Indeed, IMNSHO, Sid Meier is the greatest computer-game designer who ever lived ;) and he's a sort-of-local lad, to boot (Baltimore, MD - the Washington Post did a major write-up on him a few months back soon after Civ 3 came out).

You know, I have never tried any of Cid Meier's games. But I have a hard time getting cozy with games that aren't 3D and action packed. The one exception I can think of right off hand is Diablo 2.I really liked that game. But, I know the Civ games are always a contender when the topic of the 'greatest game ever' comes up.

If you haven't already, you might try "Alpha Centauri". It's, in a sense, the direct prequel to Civ 3, because many of the concepts of the latter game were originally developed for this one.
Sid also has tried his luck with Civil War gaming, with two outings so far, "Gettysburg" and "Antietam"; the game engine has been used as a base for several others since, including Strategy First's "Waterloo".
His very latest is a Sim project for Maxis, "SimGolf".

I perfer some human interaction, I have a long standing email game of Admiral of the Seas going with the father of a coworker and a email game of Combat Mission going with my son. If you are not familar with Combat Mission check it out at www.battlefront.com
I tend to aviod the latest and greatest, so WCIII is not a option, until I can get it for ~$20.
I recently picked up a copy of Warlords Battlecry it seems to play pretty well, am anticipating some LAN play with my daughter!
My greatest ever adiction was with the original Civilization. I played that game nonstop for 2 years, I have tried Civ III but couldn't get into it.
Also spent lots of time on Railroad Tycoon, Panzer General and the C&C games, Total Anilhation (sp) Kingdoms, Giants Kaboto, Freecell, and minesweeper.
The best on-line game......Ever. = Air Attack WWII flight sim.
Forget FA3, the gameplay on Air Attack is ace. Easy for the beginner to get in to and still challenging to perfect different advanced manoeuvres 4 years later. Squad matches, 1v1 leagues this game has the lot and it's free to download and play. Give it a try. :)

Big fan of the heroes series so I waited with baited breath for heroes 4. Finally it came out and I bought it. What a waste. I do like some of the aspects about it like your hero joining in the fray but overall it's lacking. And what's up with that memory leak? I had to patch for that and not from 3do I might add (way to go guys) and then my mouse was screwing up the screen so I had to downgrade my hardware accelerator to clean things up. I'm disappointed.

Well, time for an update! I am playing Thief 2 for the first time. The game is quite fun and loaded with origional gameplay. The graphics aren't too shabby either. The game has been off retail shelves for a long time,so if you want a copy you will need to find it used, or online.
If you enjoy 3D action games and happen to come across this one, don't pass it up.It was developed by Looking Glass while they were still in their heyday.I couldn't find a copyright date, but the game is 3 or 4 years old.
I think this is one of the more refreshingly origional titles that have graced the PC.You sneak around these great levels,I mean excellently designed to accommodate this thiefing, sneaking gameplay. There are guards to stay clear of, while you are casing these institutions out for their wealth and hidden treasures. You can hide, and remain unseen, in the shadows,as the unknowing watchman walks right by.Is that a key on his belt? Reach out and pick his pocket. That's it! Now you have that key you needed! You can create more shadow to hide in, by shooting out lanterns and torches with water arrows.Need to get up to that upper balcony? Shoot your rope arrow into a beam and climb up that rope just like Robin Hood. The game is full of secret passages that are really cool to find and use.You can swim underwater.Pick locks with certain lockpicks to enter locked chests or rooms. You can actually see and hear the locks click and turn. You can also hear guards coming your way, mumbling or whistling to themselves.
This game is really kind of cool.It is a shame more gamers haven't played it.I am only playing it now for the first time, although I had heard it was a pretty good game.

I've been playing Medal of Honor AA for a few weeks now. It is the first FPS I've ever owned. (I borrowed a few previously as I'm pretty new to gaming & if they get too tedious I'm outta there)
I have been having a super great time with it.... until now,, as I just started Mission 5 - Sniper's Last Stand. Geez!
Has anybody got any general tips for me to find and survive these snipers? What a hoot overall I'm having though!!:D
I'm also liking Madden 2003 & High Heat 2003.....
In response to Alex666's old post as to how to find gaming time - Marty I don't find much time either. When the wife goes to bed and all is calm I get 1-2 hrs in, I rarely watch TV anymore, and I sacrifice some sleep occasionally. Dilsburger...
The sniper level is inordinately hard. In fact, most of the reviews I read listed it as one of the sole down points of the entire game.
As to suggestions, I know Computer Gaming World had a map of the level in one of their issues. Not too recent tho. Had pics which helps more than a walkthrough.
Of course, there's the walkthroughs...
And my personal favorite, the frequent saves. It's time consuming, but if you take is slow and figure out where the snipers are, you should be able to move forward at a slow, yet steady pace.
Hang in there! It's really a great game. I loved it... All I have to say is KING TIGER TANK!!! MWHAHAHA!

Oh,man that sniping level is a bear! I walked into it cold turkey. My son had been playing the game for a few days then I noticed he had left it off.How come you quit playing MOH,says I,game no good? Naw, I am just stuck says he.
Well heck,it can't be that bad,I'll just load up his game and get through it for him.I find myself in this bombed out depressing looking place in the pouring rain....POW! where that come from!?...POW! where is that guy!? POW! jeeze gimmie a break!...POW! Oh man, this is too much!...POW! these guys are invisible!...POW! Seriously,I can't remember when I was more ready to strangle some scrawny developer for putting me through this hell!No matter where I went, I was getting nailed.Even inside the buildings.Peek out a window..POW!
Well, finally I did get through it,after many deaths and many saves. But it really wasn't any fun.Even looking back on it,I am just glad it is over with. But once you do get through it, there is some awesome gameplay waiting once you reach that Tiger tank:D

The last 2 nites I made slow but much better progress. There was one sniper early on that had me crazy, couldn't find him! Now I got him and am making a concious effort to save frequently which definately helps. Ya get too caught up in the action and forget to do that.
I think I can say now that i won't bother to reply this level once I'm done. It really isn't that much fun....
I WANT that King Tiger bad!:D :D

Keep sniping dilsburger!! Glad you're making progress. Gotta hate those guys you can't find...
On a different note, I just downloaded the demo for UT2003! One word... "WOW!" I had already been planning to be at the stores when they opened on the day it was released, but I may be camping out overnight now! K, I was just kidding about the camping out bit. Seriously tho, it's a great game and I highly recommend downloading the demo. Even the 5+ hours it took to d/l it on my 56k were more than worth it. Hours of fragging and fun!
I am a die hard FPS fan, I play Counter-Strike, Half-Life, and mod that strikes my eye and has decent gameplay. The thing that keeps me coming back to Counter-Strike is how easily you can tweak/modify your personal gaming experience! There is all kinda of sprites/x-hairs/models it is crazy! I personally have my Counter-Strike set up almost perfect in my eyes. I have almost all my models replaced with high quality realistic models. I have a good Gfx card so it can easily handle any of this, I'm just wondering if any of you die hard CS veterans have some config settings that will give me the most eye candy!
Ok enough about Counter-Strike I also play Quake III but the small selection of maps has me shunning it, I also need some Graphic User Interface mod for it b/c the default does not allow you to do enough things, I tried UIE (User Interface Enhanced) But it had some bugs in it like freezing between map roatations and things like that, that is what I really want in the default quake, a map rotation feature, I hate having to start a new map and manually add in all the bots. Anyone have any suggestions?????

Well anybody going to post some thoughts on Cate Archer's new adventure, No One Lives Forever 2?
I haven't gotten too far into it.I finished the first mission and I am about half way through the Siberia mission. It is a pretty good single player game.Nice level design, that accurately portrays settings of the 1960s when the game takes place. Also ,there is a fair amount of interaction with the environment as you move through it, searching drawers, file cabinets, foot lockers, stacks of papers and the bodies of enemies for use useful items or information.
This new version of the lithtech engine does a good job too. Both indoor and out door environments are convincingly detailed. This is the kind of game that puts the new GF4 Ti cards to good use!I think the lighting and textures in Wolf.rendered with the Quake 3 engine are a cut above what this Lithtech has shown me so far,but the game still looks great!Especially the ice in Siberia.Frozen lakes and ponds have never been rendered as nice as this!
As far as the gameplay itself goes, it is a well done FPS action game. The game is a Light hearted nod to the spy vs.spy movies that appeared in the 60s.It is very story driven, and the story is fleshed out with in game conversations that are overheard, and notes and letters you find and read along the way. Also, I have noticed that there is more than one way to accomplish missions. It is not necessary to run and gun through the game, if you would rather be a little sneaky and avoid contact with the opposition. There are optional mission goals to complete too, adding to the depth of the gameplay.
So if you are a FPS or action gamer, this one is worth your time,
as long as you understand that this game is focused on single player.

Gonna check out NOLF 2 soon. Looks sweet...
Been playing an oldie tho, Max Payne. Fun game in it's original config, but I'd recommend the True Matrix Total Conversion mod v1.6. Includes new weapons, skins, levels and kung fu! How can you go wrong with a minigun? Or double sawed off shotguns? Hehehe.
Anyhow, if you haven't played Max Payne and like good FPS games, play it. Good plot, and the bullet time is cool. Plus, then you get to use the Matrix mods and re-live the lobby scene...
For all your Max Payne needs, go to www.maxpayneheadquaters.com. If you have problems playing it on XP, donwload the 1.05 patch.

 Now out of all the post that I read. No one ever said anything about EQ, which just so happens to be the best online computer RPG game I know of. Well anyway the games that I play are on other systems (i.e Playstation, Game Cube, Xbox). The one I play the most how ever are the Final Fantasy games
