I have a P 233 MMX that displays a "configmg" error message during boot.
The motherboard is an430tx and I've tried disabling the L2 cache but it affects the L1 cache also and won't boot at all.
Is there a way to disable just the L2 cache? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

Try this site out.
Microsoft Knowledge base (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q187/6/12.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0&qry=configmg%20protection%20error&rnk=1&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=WINME)

Been there done that.
With the Phoenix BIOS you cannot disable L2 cache without affecting L1.
It WILL boot into safe mode though. Would this rule out Processor?

Here is a link to several topics on the configmg error message, it sounds like it could be caused from several different things, from hardware problems, software problems, USB ports, motherboard etc. etc.. Without knowing more about your system ie: recent changes in hardware or software it's tough knowing. I would have to say I would rule out the processor since you can get to safe mode.
Hopefully someone else can jump in and help you out more then I have.

Thanks WarHog,
The funny thing is it quit during the day with nobody home!
I can't say I've added anything to it in the past six months.
I DID try to load aol 6.0 (wife's machine) about a month ago and it would fault reboot whenever it tried to initialize the modem. I've since uninstalled that however and the machine had been working fine.
Can the onboard graphics be disabled on the an430tx? I don't find a jumper for it. Everything else I've removed!
