Two computers, one WinXp the other Win98 both connected to a router.
I wnat to be able to browse one machine from the other, how to do?

What I have done:

I ran the network wizard from the XP machine, created a netsetup.exe disk. followed instruction to run this program on the 98 machine. restarted, nothing happened.
Both machines have the same workgroup name.
IP addresses:
The same except the last number set. Does the IP address have to be the same?

No, if you can "ping" the other computer your fine.

At the XP computer you can either enable the "guest" account (not secure) or create an account name and password that matches the same one used to login to the Windows 98 computer (more secure). At the 98 computer turn on file sharing. Then share a folder at both computers.

To test open the "run" box and type "\\computername\share" (replace computername with the remote computer's name and share with the shared folder's name.) A new window to that share should open. Note because you have used the "network setup wizard" you 'll need to do some extra steps. The wizard will turn on XP's firewall which will stop you from sharing files on a LAN. Go here to learn how to turn it off.
