Hey Jude! (John) :D

There are a ton to choose from. (As I'm sure you know)
I myself have a 3 piece Altec Lansing that I love. Nothing fancy, just a couple of satellites and a small sub-woofer. But they sound great. ( I think I only paid 50 or 60 bucks for them)

HERE (http://www.epinions.com/cmhd-Speakers-All) is a site that reviews a bunch of them in different price ranges that you might find helpful. :)

(Edit) John, I happened to find my speakers after I posted this. You probably want something fancier but These (http://www.epinions.com/cmhd-Speakers-All-Altec_ACS33) sound pretty good and got good reviews.
HA! I also just realized that I had them for over two years:eek: I'm sure by now someone will recommend something else for the same price;)

These (http://www.provantage.com/scripts/go.dll/-s/fc_lgts) absolutely ROCK!!.

I have them and can tell you that 400 watts gets the neighboors attention.

;)

fantastic price as well.

My friend said that logitech only make good keyboards and mice and not speakers. That must not be true if the "Exalted Grand Master Geek" (U) said they were good. Am i right?

the title is the default one for the number of posts I have made, not created by me...(edit- there ya go I changed it for you)- like that better??

hehe

;)

I would venture to say that your friend does not own nor has never heard this system (Z-560), I recommend it because I have it myself and I paid a good bit more for mine than the link I posted.

Where else are you going to get a 188watt sub-woofer, and (4) 53 watt satelite/ surround speakers for a total of a 400watt system for $115.00??

as long as you have a decent soundcard I don't see where you can go wrong, again- I only suggested it because I have it and like it.

edit: Logitech also makes very durable inexpensive pc-cameras, the $38.00 cam that took this (http://seanweb1.homestead.com/files/Picture_116.jpg) picture over my front door has been outside (uncovered) 24/7/365 for (2) two years-winter, summer, rain, snow 100+*(f).

Sea,

Just took a look at THIS (http://www.tweak3d.net/reviews/logitech/z560/) revue and WOW they seem to have made quite an impression on the dude testing them! :p

Logitech apparently purchased financially troubled Labtec, one of the results being your speaker choice.....

Just wondering...do you think they'd have any sonic effect on mosquitoes? :D

Whyzman's link mentions the Labtec Pulse 424's, which for a long time were considered among the best speaker's for $50. If you don't mind a 2-speaker set-up, see if you can find those. Otherwise, check out the others.

Generally you can get good quality 2.1 or 3.1 systems for under $100, but 4.1 or 5.1 systems at that price are often flaky and underpowered, tho there are many deals around. And of course you can never go wrong with some Klipsch speakers! Mmmm... wooden sub-woofers... :)

Whatever you get will sound waaay better than those Harmon-Kardon "bundled speakers" you see with most ready-built PC's. Once you've heard what "real" speakers sound like, bundled ones show their cheapness!

not sure- let me turn them up!

I can assure you, there is nothing "underpowered" with this system!

(and the sub-woofer is wood. (case)

and the posters concern was also PRICE.

at least initially:

Sea,

I live in Minnesota, Land of 10,000 Lakes...and those are only the "named" ones, doesn't include what we would call a pond when I lived in Colorado.

Thinking about that movie "Mosquito Coast".....

I would pit my Santa Cruz and Cambridge Soundworks Microworks 2.1 speakers up against the fancy expensive ones any day of the week.

I have a 500watt home stereo system with two MTX 200watt 4-way loudspeakers and two Bose 150watt 3-way speakers, so I think I'm qualified to know what good sound is.

The Microworks speakers are good sound.
