Haven't been here for a while... hello again. I just got a new computer (today) which runs Windows XP (Home Ed). I was on Windows 98, and I think I might prefer that. Anyway... I have Norton SystemWorks 2000, which I want to install on this computer. Unfortunately, I get the message that there's a compatability issue with this version of Windows. The Symantec site offered no help, as they figure any version older than the 2000 version doesn't deserve their time (even though it cost me a couple twenties years ago). I WANT TO USE THIS VERSION OF SYSTEMWORKS ON MY WINDOWS XP COMPUTER. Is it possible? Anybody know where I could find the necessary fix? You may see me on these boards often now as I try to figure out this mystery which is Windows XP and this new-fangled computer. :)

as far as everything i have read Norton 2000 will not work with xp. different underpinnings tha 9x. save yourself some trouble and upgrade. one note though xp is much more stable and your need for all the utilities will be less. i have found I only use the win doctor pa
rt.. Xp's defrag seems to work better. Mark
What is in SW2k that you absolutely cannot do without?
Actually, just save your self some money and don't bother with it....:D
It is one of the applications that was "broken" by XP hence the "need" for an upgrae to 2002. Symantec is not going to provide much support for the non-current version, so if you must use it keep it on the 98 machine. For the most part the native XP tools are vast improvements over their 98 versions.

You need the Norton system works 2002 for XP, as with other programs like easy cd creator you need a XP compliant version.
One of the main reasons is that the Win Dr tool in the 2000 does not know about XP and would therefore cause all sorts of problems.

Thanks for the quick replies. To answer the q a few above, I like to use the System Works System Check option... if I run it every couple weeks, it usually detects and corrects problems. Most of them are minimal I suppose (invalid shortcuts, registry entries for uninstalled programs, etc.) but it did give me peace of mind. And of course the Antivirus protection is my main reason. But, this new comp comes with 6 months of Norton AV, so all's not lost. Thanks again, was hoping there was a way to use this program on this OS, but there obviously isn't.

winXP does most of this automatically on it's own, at least even though I have run regcleaner and easycleaner they never really find anything wrong to address.

XP will take care of it's self if it has a problems with files and such it will let you know and give you the option to repair.Or at least it has me a couple of times (becouse I'm such a dope sometimes) I need that feature. :)

Hi jericho-
I have to agree with the others. XP, when you get used to it is pretty stable and the built in utilities work better than Norton.
When I installed XP, I used Norton 2002 for a while and finally ended up giving the ol' win Dr. the "BOOT".
Norton has a way of sticking itself all over the place on your computer.
I just stick with their antivirus now and am all the happier for it.:)
(Edit) A little side note jericho- The only time I had XP Crash big time, was when I tried running Nortons "Speed Disk" instead of using XP's Defrag! (Some food for thought! :)

Glad to hear all the praise for XP, it seems unanimous... to hell with Norton. Anyway, as I said I do have Anti-Virus which is all I might need. This is my second day using XP, I had no prior knowledge whether it was a decent OS or not. Happy to hear that maybe it's a better thing than W98 afterall.

Hi Jericho.
Not only is it a better os, but you will almost never see a blue screen. Seems like it takes care of itself. Have fun and enjoy.
Mark:)
