I'm sure many of you experienced folks know about this website. I've found it to be extremely useful, so for those of you that don't know of it:

Hi there Nooyawkah

PCPitstop looks very interesting, with some useful on-line checks.

Like you, I'll be most interested to hear what our experts think about them - and their "fixes"?

No doubt we'll soon find out:D :D

I've used them never there fixes though, I have had them report totaly differnt senerios on the same pc two days apart without changing a thing. As far as reliable I guess just as good as any on line Benchmark.

Hi guys-

I have actually used the site quite a bit- (I have it bookmarked)

As Yoda mentioned, it does give varied results-
But if you "log in" rather than run the tests anomymously- Eventually, you compile your own "History log" and it gives you a general picture of how various components perform. Especially before and after you change a system component- Say a new hard drive or a video card.

It was kind of fun to see how much the "un-cached" test of my hard drive improved after I replaced my old HD with a newer 7200 rpm Maxtor.

I think you would have to be careful with some of the "auto-fixes" although I did use one for a Cache overflow "bug" in IE that seemed to work.

All in all, I think the site is kinda fun to stop in a play around a little. ( Just don't take it too seriously ). :D

(Edit) I usually run the "full" set of tests- You may have to disable your firewall in some cases.

yep- pcpitstop has been a favorite of mine for a while- it was interesting to see the differences in performance between winXP, and win98se.

not a large amount of improvement as I would have expected, I guess consistent non-crash working uptime cannot be measured in a 60 second test!

;)

and (Edit) I usually run the "full" set of tests- You may have to disable your firewall in some cases.

is very true, in fact the tests won't even complete running ZA-Pro.

and they also have some right smart people in their forums as well.

Hey Sea!

Yea, I hear you about the "non crash working time"- Nice, huh?
:D

Something I found interesting considering peformance between 98(or ME), and XP was the Fat32 file system as opposed to NTFS ( Which I am using now)

Directly from PCPitstop after I run a test:

One or more partitions are using the NTFS file system. Although this file system offers many good features such as encryption and improved security, it is generally much slower than the FAT32 file system. You may notice a significant performance difference between FAT32 and NTFS partitions on the same drive.

I don't however notice a significant performance difference and I like the features and stability of NTFS.

Anyway- Yea, a pretty cool site:D
