Can anyone explain why I am unable to update Excel spreadsheets over my network? Everytime I open an Excel spreadsheet from my network server, the local PC hangs (Excel not responding). I have to do a CTL/ALT/DELETE and do an end task on Excel.I can copy the files over to my local PC, update them and copy them back OK, but this is a bit of a headache.

My network server is a Compaq Proliant ML-330 and the PC is a Dell using Windows ME. Any ideas as to why this is happening would be appreciated. Thanks!

Regards,
Steve M.

Somethings to look at.....

Check your network rights.

Check where your temp files are created when Excel opens. Delete any files found in your temp directory.

Check that your antivirus software isn't trying to scan a file opened on a network drive. If it is then disable that option and try again.

Check that the file isn't compressed.

Good Luck :)

Clear your "recent Docs" list.

I had the same exact problem but with Word and the PC was Win98. I tried everything off the Microsoft website without success. I upgraded to Win XP and fixed the problem.
