View Full Version : Search engine change and reindexing

I will be making a change to the search engine to allow words as small as three or four characters to be used for searches, instead of the current minimum of five. This will increase database size but will allow more searches to be done on smaller words. (I am not going below three, as going to two words would greatly expand the search indices and I can't see much point in searching for two-letter words.)

This change will require the entire database to be reindexed. What I am told is that I can do this while the forums are still running, but it will take many hours to do. I will first try to do this overnight, probably on Tuesday night this week. If it fails I will have to try it with the forums disabled, probably the next night.

Expect some delays in using the forums while this takes place. If the forums need to be shut down I will of course post the appropriate warnings in advance.

My wife says I'm a character and she's says there's definitely only one of me! However will I find myself? :( :D
