Can't load program [Archive] - The PC Guide Discussion Forums

I have been having a problem loading CD's I buy and running an exe. download. My operating system is XP. Every time I try to run the Setup.exe on a program nothing happens. I tried one of the CD's at work and the Setup.exe worked fine. I am not sure what is happening with my home PC. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you gone into the control panel and used the ADD and Remove programs?

Thanks, I will try that. That would be the only other thing I have not done. Still curious why I can't do it from Run or through Explorer though.

Just wondering if when you attempt to install if you are getting any messages regarding restrictions writing to the Programs Folder? The Administrator can write/delete/read...but it appears the default for Users is read only.

I don't run XP but perhaps someone who does can direct you as to where to look for the security settings...if this is part of the issue.

No, I don't get any message at all. It acts like it going to run but then nothing.
