Hi Sid,
As long as you're using Windows, just go to windows explorer, locate the file that you want to share, right click on it, click "sharing" and click on "share this folder".
Go to the other computer, click on "network neighborhood" and find the listing for the first computer. All files available for sharing should be listed. You should be able to save to whatever folder you like. That's about all there is to it.
Hope this helps. :)

How do I find out which is the other computer. Please note a large organisations like a university with many floors and computer laboratories on each floor.

Heh heh, when you said you wanted to share files between two computers, I thought you knew which two computers. If you are at a university, you might want to contact the IT department and tell them what you want to do. OR...you can give us some more info and we may be able to walk you through it. :)

>Heh heh, when you said you ...
I am not doing anything phobited, it is all above board.
Note the problem occurred when I decided to become a "power user", by using more than one computer.
At most academies you have a seperate login and password this gives you access to only your "work-space" yes? You also have access to the drive c, the local hard drive I think, anything downloaded here is not gurranted to remain. I had run out of space in my "work-space" so I downloaded stuff from "Sun" website to this drive just over 250 mb of tutorials etc all free download. This computer has no cd-writer.
On the other computer I have reports and documentations on the drive c as well as in my own work-space. This computer has a cd-writer.
So I want to transfer files from first computer to second computer and then burn them to cd-rom.
Please help

I'm not sure how a large network like you described is set up, but here is something you can try. Right click Network Neighborhood > Left click Properties > Identification. There you will find your computers name. Do this for both computers. Now you will know the names of both computers.
Then you can find the files that you want to share (in Windows Explorer) and follow the directions above to make them sharable. Go to the computer with the cd burner and click on Network Neighborhood. You hopefully will find the first computers name listed. If you do, click on it and it should list all files that are sharable. You can then copy the files to the folder of your choise and burn them to cd.
If any of this doesn't work let us know. And if I'm off base on any of my ideas hopefully someone will let us know. :)

Solemn reassurance all bona-fide.

I shall try next time I am there.
An alternative idea that I thought of was to start a server on the first computer. This will give me a server name yeah? Start server on first computer. Then on the second computer through something like dos prompt or emulator connect to the server. Then use ftp type commands or perhaps use a more sophticated software that provides GUI drag & Drop.
I did just this by downloading a freeware software from tucows. I installed the software however I was not able to find the server name so thus not able to connect to it from the second computer, I can't remember the software name but I think tucows has many similar sw.

I guess it would be out of the question to just put the cdrw drive into the pc with the files you want to burn?
you could FTP them, or use icq FTP(file transfer)
