Reindexing done (finally)

The darned thing took about four tries, each of the first three failing in different ways. I ended up doing it using a browser running directly on the server itself in four parts with manual intervention between the parts.

The good news is that it is done and we shouldn't need to do it again for a long time. Also, based on input from mjc and Pete I dropped the minimum search word length all the way down to 2, so you can search for things like "XP" and "98". However, these types of searches yield many results, which makes the searches slow and taxes the server. So please try to use searches that are as specific as possible.

Well, I would like to be one of the first to thank you.
Of course, I had no idea what a pain in the neck it would be.

I just tried a search and it worked Great!

By the way, the search engine really works well- Even before you "tweaked" it, it was pretty amazing how fast, for example, you could look up every post by a certain member.

I must say, it's torture to log on and see the site down!

Could I also pass on my own appreciation to ixl for an obviously tough assignment at last, for him that is, acccomplished.

I agree with jabarnutcase about the speeded-up search function.

I also agree with his final point , namely that I've spent - in gmt -one of my longest days, waiting for the Forums to be available again.
