Hi Casper!
First of all, I guess u need Task Manager, otherwise u would't be asking. I don't use it at all.
Go to >Start.Run>mscofig>Start-up tab - then work through the list of programs which load at start-up. Task Manager should be there and if it's unchecked, then Check it and EXIT. You will be prompted to shutdown and re-start your computer. after that, you should hopefully see the TM icon in your sys tray once again.
Otherwise, see PCForrest Start Up Manager - a free and superb utility, which, through its associated Pacman database tells what you really can enable/diasable at start up- and why. Just right click on each listed start-up item and the program jumps automatically to very item on the database.
See here: http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm
Hope this helps, although the real experts will be along later!:) :)

Try Start\Programs\System Tools\Scheduled Tasks. That should open Task Manager. The msconfig option mentioned above should work IF Task Manager was previously in use and disabled in msconfig...
Then of course, this is actually Task Scheduler, so you might be referring to something different entirely...Task Monitor usually is listed in msconfig, and I believe that is the box that opens when you use the 3 finger salute...[Ctrl] + [Alt] + [Del].
Let us know if any of this helps, or if you are looking for something entirely different...I can't find anything in the win98 Help files called Task Manager...I think that's used with win NT, 2000 and XP...
