display settings are always in "16 colors"

Hi, I have an onboard VGA I find that the solor settings are set to "16 colors" & when I changed the settings to "high color 16 bit" I was prompted to restart the system.I have already set the advanced settings to change color without restarting, but still I'm prompted to restart the system.Even if I restart, the system is again in "16 colors"only.What may be the probelm?Sorry I don't know the manafacturer ,but the board is Intel 810e chipset made by "Mercury".Awaiting your replies.

Sounds like the drivers are messed up, try going to the Intel site and grabbing the latest drivers for the 810...don't have the link handy right now but www.intel.com will get you in the door. My in-laws have an ME machine that periodically will barf on the i810 drivers and I will need toreinstall them...same symptoms, same reactions.
