Hello there, munch. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Without knowing your level of experience, or very much about your system, it's kind of hard to know where to start. Have you ever created an Emergency Boot Disk / Start-up Disk while your system was operating normally? If not, but you have a manufacturer's restore CD, that may be your only option for getting your system working. I'd check any manuals you got, or the Systemax web site first, and follow their recommended procedure.

If it has been two weeks it's time to format and start over; try this:

thank you to rmac and tjaymadison for replying back to me, but unfortunately nothing is working! i tried to reboot with a backup disk i had already made once before, but the computer will not register the disk. it still goes back to the same blue screen saying i have produced a good registry, and should just click enter. i am unable to get into anything. the only area i can work with is by hitting delete to get into the setup, but i dont know if that will help. thanks again for the help anyway!

Try these steps to fix.

SYMPTOMS
========

When you start your computer, you may receive the following error message:

You have restored a good registry. Windows found an error in your system
files and restored a recent backup of the files to fix the problem.

When you restart your computer, you may receive the error message again.

CAUSE
=====

This behavior can occur if the registry backup file you are trying to restore is
damaged, or if the "damage" flag in the currently used registry file is not
being reset by the Registry Checker tool.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this issue, run the Registry Checker tool using the /fix and /opt
command-line switches. To do so, follow these steps:

1. Restart your computer, press and hold down the CTRL key until the Windows 98
Startup menu appears, and then choose Command prompt only.

2. At the command prompt, type "scanreg /fix" (without the quotation marks), and
then press ENTER.

NOTE: The /fix command-line switch causes the Registry Checker tool to repair
any damaged portions of the registry.

3. After the Registry Checker tool finishes repairing the registry, press ENTER.

4. At the command prompt, type "scanreg /opt" (without the quotation marks), and
then press ENTER.

NOTE: The /opt command-line switch causes the Registry Checker tool to
optimize the registry by removing unused space.

5. Restart your computer.

the scanreg /fix is the way to go, but if that doesn't work here's how to restore a factory fresh registry. Start at a true dos prompt, by holding down the control key during boot and choosing command prompt only at the menu.

at the c:\ type:
attrib -h -r -s system.1st
copy system.1st c:\windows\my.reg

ctrl alt del

then boot to safe mode (if you can) click start/find files and folders/my.reg and double click on it

It will overwrite your current registry with the original when windows was first installed. Plus, it will leave all your apps in tact.
