Mark,

At the risk of adding fuel to the fire, I'll throw in an additional consideration.

Since your intending on saving these to disk, is there any benefit zeroing in on a "single" function type of scanner? If you were desirous of just printing photos then maybe so.

Since flatbed scanners are relatively inexpensive these days I would present this route thereby providing you a multiple use scenario. ;)

Hi Whyzman
Thanks for response but I am not sure what you mean by multifunction scanner, This one does regular scanning, but also has a thigamujig fo negatives and old slides. Help me out on mutifunction.
Thanks Mark

Mark,

Sorry, there are Photo Scanners that only handle scanning photos and then printing them.

A flatbed scanner provides the ability to scan other types of media...that's where I was going with the multi-function. Didn't mean multi-function in the manner of a Fax/Scanner/Printer...;)

Hi Mark!

I have actually read some very good reviews on the 1650. Almost bought one myself.

Sounds like you've done some research also to come up with that model.

At any rate, here is a little more info down...

Enjoy! :D

(Edit) Mark- I forgot to mention. The good thing about that scanner is that it has a "transparancy adapter", alowing you to scan negatives. If you don't plan on doing that, there are less expensive scanners that do a nice job.

Well i personaly stay away from Epson and Mustec equipment..you may find that you just bought the scanner less than 6 months ago and down the road you decide to install XP..but the disc you got only supports up to 2000..no problem right? just go to the website and get updated drivers..lol..what you will find instead, is you need to pay out for another model that they only will provide XP drivers for....bets its the most expensive one also  It seems any product made by them just as or before XP was released doesnt exsist for driver support..This was my personal experiance from both companies and i persoanlly will not buy anything with that brandname..sorry for ranting on just food 4 thought.
