A friend of mine asked me to have a look at his computer.
it wouldn't boot,as it didn't see the Hardive until I got the bios to auto detect the hardrive then its ok until the next time its switch/off & on then we are back to square one at this stage all I know it is its a has 400mhz processer on, he won't allow me to look iside but to be honest I dont really want to, it all started, as I get the story from him, having a virus of some sort. I installed nortons virus checker for him it that came with the system but he didn't have it installed. He tells me the machine has some warranty cover on it but we are unable to workout whether he has caused the problem himself and may not be covered. I thick the bios is faulty but could this of been caused by a virus or has the bios just sopped working on the save option.

If we can't find the answer we keep on trucking....never afraid to ask the again.

First thing springs to mind is a dying BIOS battery. After the machine has been off for an extended period of time is the clock incorrect when it's restarted?

Yeah Sled, chances are the battery! If that is the case, I guess, it will give u a wrong time each time it starts and u'll have to readjust.

Yes, sometimes virus can attack the BIOS IF BIOS flash is enable on your mother board.
