rond36 was helpful in another tread suggesting not initially installing Win 98 SE on a new PC when intending to install the XP Upgrade.

I'm putting my machine together now. After many (I mean MANY)hours of research I'm now at the point of trying to install xp. The problem: I accepted the regualar default CMOS setup just to keep things runing smoothly until I can get xp OS installed. I've placed the xp CD in the driver and it activated (relief!). However, for the past 20 minutes I've been looking at a blue screen. On the upper left is an underlined "Windows Setup". On the bottom of the screen is a white horizontal bar on whose left side is written, "Setup is starting Windows". After this amount of time, I don't believe that anything is really happening. Has anyone had similar experience? Was (and How?) was it resolved?

rond36 might have another suggestion, but I think I would just reboot. If everything is ok, it should just start where it left off and keep installing XP. If it's just sitting there, there's not much you can do anyway.

Even tho XP has a very large HCl ( hardware compatibility list ), there could be a piece of hardware you have that it's not recognizing and is hanging on.

When first installing windows it's a good idea to only have in just the essentials, like a vidcard/memory/drives/cpu, i would suggest that you pull out any other devices to see if that could be the problem.
