win98se..i added a new soundcard, then a nic card, then a vid card...on each occasion windows found them and allowed driver install, but it also reported finding unknown devices and stated it was installing drivers for these unknown devices...however it shows no such unknown devices in system properties,or in add new hardware searches...i dont seem to have any problems on my comp, but i wonder if ive missed something?any ideas welcome.

Boot into safe mode and check Device Manager there...

Thanks for reply..in safe mode i found creative gameport joystick times 3,...sb audio pci times 2,..sb audio pci legacy device times 2...and monitors..ctx pr10,default monitor, plug and play monitor....also in performance it states drives a and c are using msdos compatibility mode file system ,may adversely affect performance...i was trying out dos games some weeks ago,but i have since been running with autoexec.bat and config.sys unchecked.also i have sb legacy mode unchecked.none of this shows in normal windows mode....also,strange thing, when i went back to normal mode, the icons on my desktop had rearranged themselves, tho they are all there.

did you remove the extars?

If not go back and do so. It is normal to run in MS-DOS compatability mode while in Safe Mode.

Ok thanks..i did that,i removed duplicate soundcard entries, not sure about removing both the sb legacy entries,as one may be relevent in safe mode?even tho i dont have legacy drivers in normal mode??
