I've been told that Windows XP Home eddition has a backup utility but does *not* have a restore utility. This doesn't make much sense to have a backup utility if you can't restore. Does anyone know if this is true?
I would think that Microsoft would have more sense that to leave out something that important. Well----I would think.

The System Restore feature of Windows XP Home Edition enables you to restore a PC, in the event of a problem, to a previous state without losing personal data files. System Restore actively monitors system file changes to record or store previous versions before the changes occurred. With System Restore, you never have to think about taking system snapshots as it automatically creates easily identifiable restore points, which allow you to restore the system to a previous point in time.

Thanks, Yoda. There is a lot of information at that site where you directed me. The type of restore that they have could be quite useful at times. But, from what I've seen, they don't have the Backup/Restore that is currently on WIN98. In other words, right now in Win98, I do a backup of my Microsoft Excel files, all of my files in the Word Processor and a lot of other things. I use the regular Windows backup, and I back them up to a floppy disk. That way, if my hard-drive ever goes bad, I still have my important files on floppys. With the System Restore on XP Home, if your drive goes bad and you lose everything--which could happen--you're up the creek. So, even though the System Restore on XP Home is great, I still like to backup my files to a removable disk. That's what I'm wondering--with XP can you do a backup and restore of just selected files? Thanks

I run XP Pro so not to familiar with Home version. I put anything i want to backup on cd's some of todays files are large and for me it is just easyier now home version does not come by default but you can install the back up by doing this manually.
Double-click the Ntbackup.msi file in the following location on the Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM to start a wizard that installs Backup:
CD-ROM Drive :\VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP
When the wizard is complete, click Finish .
