View Full Version : XP and 512 RAM?
I saw what Sea 69 posted, that 512 is the minimum optimum for XP so i took this as an excuse to upgrade my system, I went through Crucial.com and found a great deal on RAM 256 for 50 dollars, its the exact RAM for my computer. So i got it home and installed and system runs fine can tell a lil bit of a difference. BUT, i was wanting to know of any tweaks i can do to increase performance now that i have more RAM. any suggestions?

true, XP runs much better with 256+ of memory, i suggest you take a look at the services you have running and disable the unnecessary ones, this will improve performance.
Here's a site to get you started;

Hi Elad-
As both Sea and iisbob mentioned- Yes, XP loves ram, and disabling some unnecessary services helps a lot. In addition, you may want to go to your control panel/Performance and maintenance/Adjust visual effects-
There is a lot of stuff in there to check or uncheck that will (seemingly) change performance. A couple that I didn't like were: "Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing" and "fade and slide menus". Unchecking them, made programs "snap" open and closed, like I was used to, instead of "fading"
And last, as iisbob mentioned:
Here (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15314) is a recent thread that will give you so many "tweak sites", you won't know what to do with them all!
Have fun-;)
