Hi there gurus,
I have recently purchased a gigabyte GA-6VEM MB with a 1.2 FC-PGA2 celeron cpu, having set this up I started the beast to be greeted by a system lock up. I reset about 3 times and finally it kicks in, I select normal windows setup and it goes through a few screens then has the following message:

While initialising device:VPCID
Windows protection error you need to restart computer.

I then restart with step by step prompting run through it all and starts no problems. When ever I ad software that needs to restart the puter it locks up on the first screen after post....

I thought it might be the DVD player so disconect it and it did not change it.

I have a ATA66 and ATA100 HD (30g master5400) (60g slave 7200) 512 ram and no idea what the problem is.........help.....lol

The first thing that comes to mind is Mboard
chipset drivers.

Realize this isn't probably what you would like
to hear but a fresh install of Windoz after a Mboard
swap is usually the best scenerio.

Were you using an Intel based Mboard prior to the
Gigabyte installation?

Just a thought but for added performance I would
install the 7200 RPM HDD as Master.

thanks ranchdog, tried that but no difference, still get the stinking windows protection error.......I have taken everything out of the puter except ram and cd and even flashed the bios, the flashing managed to stop the initial freeze but the protection error persists.

I agree, I got a new Mboard and it would lock up on Windows Xp load screen. After a clean install, all was great.
