welcome to pc guide.

I think that you need to rename boot.ini to boot.old in C:\ (that way you can always change it back.)

You installed win98 and win xp
Then you deleted all the XP files.

You now have win98 only installed and want to remove the NT Loader?
If so you need to have or make a win98 boot disk
With sys.com on it
This file is normally stored in c:\windows\command

In the root folder / directory of the C: drive delete NTLDR and BOOT.ini
then Boot from the Floppy into win98 with No cd-rom support
Then run SYS from the A: prompt
This will update the Master Boot record and install IO.sys MSDOS.sys and command.com
The system will then boot directly to win98

You mat also need to re-create the the master boot record by booting from a floppy disk then running fdisk /mbr

Thanks guys for the information.I am still a little bit confused.OK!Let me tell more details about my computer.
I have using the win98(c: drive) only for a long time.I just installed the winXP(D: drive) a month before.I realized that winXP wasn't convenient for me;therefore,I entered win98 and deleted all the files of winxp. Now my computer only has the files of win98.I wonder should I just deleted the (boot.ini) file and then my computer will enter the win98 automatically without dual choosing when I turn on my computer OR I need to do these complicated processess as you said.(I don't even know what the NT Loader is)
Thanks a lot!

Sincerely

Jimmy

(> = click) > start > settings > control panel > add/remove programs > startup disk (insert blank floppy disc) > create disk. you now have a 'boot disc'

when done > close (all boxes) to get back to desktop.

>start > programs > windows explorer > windows > command.

highlight, then copy 'sys.com' copy & paste (or drag & drop) it onto your newly made floppy.

in windows explorer (C drive) find ntldr, highlight & delete. find boot.ini, highlight & delete. (you can copy these onto a spare floppy 1st if you wish. a good practice !)

re-boot with the (boot) floppy still in the drive. choose 'no cd rom support' > enter. at 'A' prompt, type sys > enter.

when done, remove & mark the floppy as 'w98 boot disc' & store safely (it may come in useful in the future.) re-boot pc.

NO.

if you do it that way, it will not boot at all.

Do it like Vic has described.
