my computer wont read my cd rom

my computer is fine but it doesnt show a cd rom. it is connected right it just doesnt work

If you can tell us a bit more ....I'm sure someone can help you! Has the CD rom ever shown up and worked? Is it a new computer or what is age? What Operating System (win95/98/ Me)? Have you changed anything out lately like the motherboard or sound card?
