I don t know when they started to put system restore on windows but it was a splendid idea. I think they started it Windows ME or Windows 98SE. When Bill Gates and company came up with this idea i was very impressed, then I thought about it a little more. So one day I erased some files uninstalling my video card(my fault but I said "hey I have system restore so no WORRY") and WOLAH! SAFE MODE. SO i thought I was smart because I had system restore but uh oh it doesnt even work!!!When you erase configuration files it doesnt work. So I guess my quesstion is Why have system restore when it doesnt even work?

Just add it to the complaint list for Windows Me users.

"As hard as a rock & dumb as a brick"...Windows CEMeNT
They put system restore on ME.
I am using ME and I've used the system restore function, and it worked fine.
Guess you was just unlucky

Interestingly enough, I used system restore a few times, and it never restored deleted files, but it "lost" files that I had aquired since the date I restored to....despite the fact that it specifically says it doesn't do this...
It ocurred on more than one occasion, and was not the result of a virus...if it had happened once I'd figure I just forgot I had deleted something, but...
I'm still trying to figure out what EXACTLY the system restore actually does that is of any use...
I know it takes up a lot of space. It's saved me a couple of times, but not anything too important. I've heard some people say they just uninstall it. You can adjust the settings to control how much space it uses to restore. But I can't remember right off hand how I did it.

hmmmmm..... yes System Restore........... on the lovely ME OS.. I have not personally used it.. there are sooo many problems with OEM version of ME that it is no surprise to me that this also works only sometimes, and then without consistent results!!
In win98se, I use "Go Back" which actually works and does not drain recources on my pc at all.

After the talk of system restore here, I went in and adjusted the settings to 200MB, this gave me 3 Gigs of HD space back! What a space hog. I still have 4 days of saves left. Thanks for bringing up the topic. If you want to check your disk space- Goto Start>Settings>Control Panel>System> Click Performance Tab>File System>Hard Disk>Adjust System Restore Disk Space Used. HTH.

I recently picked up a virus (win95.hybris.worm) from a DL, my AV software detected it and removed it, but was unable to remove to copys that were put into my "ME" restore folder.
Presumbly this was done so that everytime you restore back come the Viruses,
Couldnt delete the file in restore or the restore folder, so one format later.
