To assign sounds to program events

Open Sounds and Multimedia properties in Control Panel.
In the Sound Events list, click the event to which you want to assign a sound.
In the Name list, click the sound you want to play whenever the selected event occurs.
If the sound you want to use is not listed, click Browse.

Notes

Another way to open Control Panel is to click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. If you don't see the item you want, click view all Control Panel options.
By default, not all sound schemes are installed during Setup. For information about installing others, click Related Topics below.
To test a sound, click its name, and then click .
You can save your sound settings by clicking Save As, and then naming the sound scheme you created. The name will appear in the Scheme list, so you can easily use these settings later.

I copy pasted this from the Windows Help...typed in sounds...I'm using WinMe. The actual topic was: Assigning sounds to program events.

Yes you can. There are a number of ways of doing it. You may need the CD but the files may actually be on your HDD.

Some Help Here (http://service2.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/pfdocs/2001011114021106?OpenDocument&ExpandSection=5,2)

PS "The Microsoft Sound.wav"; (478KB for winME) (132KB for Win2K). If you want either I can eMail you a copy - but maybe you want the Win95 Sound! :D

you can also replace the start-up sound with a favorite sound 'byte' from any song you like.
