I plan to upgrade from my current install of Windows 98 to Windows 98SE.
If I simply put the CD in the tray and click on set-up,after it has upgraded will all my current games, apps, documents that i have on my system under W98 still be there on my desktop,or does it wipe your files as in a new install?.
I know this sounds like a n00b question but I have never upgraded before, only used a fresh install of Windows........lol........

The upgrade should leave everything the same as it is currently, but you have no guarantees...
The one thing to consider is whether you are currently already having problems. If so, upgrading will bring them right along and you will still have problems, so a clean install would be best.
If you are having no problems, and simply wish to upgrade, it should work ok, but I'm not sure if the win98SE will actually upgrade win98 1st release. It's actually intended as an upgrade from win3.x or 95. I've never tried it, I always run a clean install, so I have no personal experience with that particular upgrade.
Try it and see, but if you are currently having problems, the upgrade will not be a solution. It will retain current problems along with settings...

Hey Pete,
It does work.!
it is some time ago since I did an upgrade from w98 to w98se, but the reason being...,
I was having probs & w98 gave the message "run setup to restore missing or corrupted files" I had w98se standing by waiting for some time to do a clean install, so I thought 'Why not' I popped in the disc, upgraded ok, probs dissapeared, all my progs & icons stayed the same (a few extra in fact, which I deleted) but it has run fine ever since.
If something goes wrong now I can be sure that it was not the upgrade.
