I've been using a local ISP for about 8 years. They started out OK, but as they've been "acquired" several times, the monthly cost has increased as the service quality decreased (surprise, surprise). So, I'd like to find a new ISP, and although I'd prefer a local company, this probably isn't an option any longer, so I would consider a national provider. One thing I'm looking for is a provider with good newsgroup performance, since I like to download audio binaries. I find with my present ISP, 75%+ of the uploads are missing segments. I know there are NG-only providers which are much better in this regard, but if possible I'd prefer one charge for my access. I have a dialup connection (cable isn't feasible right now) and pay ~$22/mo. I live in central Ohio.

Thanks,

Dan

If you can get NetZero in your area [with a local # naturally] I would get it. You only pay $9.95 mo. and I had great success with it until I got cable. It's a terrific deal in my opinion.

Randy-Thanks for the reply. So you had no problems with busy signals, frequently dropped lines, etc? Did you have any NG experiences?

Thanks,

Dan

I just setup a Netzero account last night for free for a friend who travels alot. He just needs it to get his email while on the road. I think you only get 10 hours free per month, anything more will cost you. I didnt need to pay installation fee or give them a credit card like some of the other "free" ISP's. You just have to download the Netzero.exe. I only played around with it for an hour but the connection seemed OK. I did get some busy signals when connecting but the program quickly went to the next available local number.
