Hi there, this might help.
In Windows 2000:
right-click on My Computer
choose Properties
choose Advanced tab
choose Startup And Recovery
On that tab select your default operating system and you can change other setting as well.
This is the healthy alternative to changing the boot.ini file directly.

OK then, that was half the solution.
You can edit the boot.ini file to remove any redundant references to installations that you no longer have, although I recommend you read up a bit before you do this. What I would do is to make a boot disk that includes the boot.ini file and make the changes on the disk and boot with that to test if it works before doing it on you hard drive. If you edit the boot.ini on your c: drive and you get it wrong, you will not be able to boot, so be careful!
