View Full Version : Viewing movies on Newsgroups. .
I don’t want to sound dumb or anything but, how do I view movies (mpg.-avi.-etc)on any of the newsgroups? I can view jpg. Pictures using Outlook Express and I’ve tried other Newsreaders like “Free Agent” with no success. All I get when I try to view them is a bunch of letters and numbers. Can anyone let me know what I might be doing wrong?
Thanks, Jim

You need software and the proper codecs. The software I prefer is Rad Light media player and the Nimo codec pack.

In Outlook Express you need to combine and decode the parts of the posting into a final file. (Highlight all parts of the posting, then choose the "combine and decode" option.) Watch out for "yenc" files which can not be decoded by Outlook Express, but must first be combined and decoded into one posting. Then saved to your hard drive and decoded again by a yenc "decoder".)
As already mentioned, you need the proper codecs and a viewer to actually watch the movie. ( unlike a picture file, you can't watch a movie in Outlook Express.)
Hope this helps :)
