Scandisk trouble from newbie

Well guys,

I am here because everytime I try to use Windows9x Scandisk utilite it shows me the following message window: Scandisk utilite was restarting everytime. So I had to close it. Why?

Try clicking Ctrl-Alt-Del and shutting down everything except Explorer and Systray. Also shut off your Background,Screensaver,Anti-virus and Firewall. That should work. If not try doing it in safemode.
