The Good News (http://www.cnn.com/)

Beyond the odds, there they are! I must admit. I was starting to give up hope for these men. What a lift when I heard the news. All nine out and in good condition!

It's amazing what we can do when we put our will to it. Can you imagine what the last four days have been like for those men and their families, friends and co-workers?

They're going to have some good stories to tell the grand kids! :)

Yes- Thats great. I've been following that story too.
Kind of puts things in perspective...

I'll bet the last thing on their mind the past few days was whether or not they could get their computers to boot properly!

Hmm,

Glad they all survived. I wouldn't want to go through it myself.

About the guy that needed the decompression chamber, I never knew you could get the 'Bends' from mining underground. I always thought it was only for water.

Hi Ted,

I guess the deal is PRESSURE . They pressurized the spot where the men were, with air, under pressure, in order to warm them and keep the water out. The high pressure environment is similar to the pressure of being under water. I think that's the way it goes...

Actually it's Nitrogen...

"The bends," or decompression sickness, is another health hazard associated with pressure changes. The longer you stay down and the deeper you go, the more nitrogen dissolves into your body tissues. If you ascend too rapidly, the dissolved nitrogen comes out of solution too quickly and forms bubbles in your tissues. You could experience severe pain (particularly in joints), dizziness, blindness, paralysis, and convulsions.

Copied from Newton's Apple (http://www.pbs.org/ktca/newtons/11/bends.html).
