I've been trying to set my homepage to Google, but whenever I restart my computer it goes back to MSN. Is this a virus of some sort? Or is it something horrible that MS has done to my registry? Any help welcome!!

Hi Dan
Why not simply incorporate Google into your IE browser.
The necessary software can be d/l'd FREE from CNET.

When you first use IE, MS/MSN usually connects up on a run once basis; I think you need to let this process complete or it does it's run once, twice, thrice...
For those bemused that Google isn't incorporated in the various Search Engines set up by default in IE, there is a way to setup google as the Seach Engine so that it appears in the left pane when you click the Search Button. It involves a Reg Tweak; so know what you are doing. Then you can set the PCGuide as your home page!!! and still have easy access to Google, without adding anything new at all.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Set the "Search Bar" key's value to http://www.google.com
While you are there you may see the currently set homepage at the "Local Page" key.

Hi again Dan
1) Use this link: http://download.com.com/3120-20-0.html?qt=Google+Toolbar&tg=dl-20&search=+Go%21+ to incorporate Google in your IE browser
2) For quick loading and to get rid of msn, just manually set up a blank IE browser as your Home Page;) ;)

Just remember that if you install the Google Toolbar to NOT install the "advanced features" if you don't want it auto-updating itself and phoning home.

Tweak shmeek; this is why i use Opera (www.opera.com) Google is already installed in your toolbar by Default. ;)

Sometimes your opening address is highjacked by another "application" or add.
A program to counter this is "StartPage Guard". I'm sure you can find it on the web...
Gives us a feedback...

Found it HERE (http://www.webattack.com/get/startpageguard.shtml) and it looks interesting (especially if you visit dodgy sites!!). I won't be downloading it though, since I use Opera 95% of the time.

The Page Guard keeps it at Google for me, good recommendation! I'm just left wondering why my homepage was hijacked by MSN. Shurely Microsoft wouldn't be so underhanded? ;)
Default homepage for IE is MSN, often, it returns to it after any kind of IE update...

I have "Windows Update" in my Start bar, so maybe that's the problem. I bet it's not worth the agony of removing. Thanks guys.

Dan,
The presence or otherwise of "Windows Update" - which u don't anyway need in your start-up program list - will not affect your IE Home Page.
Follow the instructions I have given you and you'll have a faster IE load-up, Google in your IE toolbar and, at the same time, you'll be rid of that MSN default.
No hassle and MSN won't come back, until you want it to!:D :D
Otherwise, your IE browser will go on defaulting to MSN forever!!!
