I'm guessing that this is just a matter of not having your drivers installed. If you know what kind of modem and video card you have, you'll have to find the drivers for them. Hopefully you'll have the installation disks.

PC Card (formerly PCMCIA) refers to those credit-card-sized things that plug into a slot on a portable computer. Without going to an awful lot of trouble, you usually don't have any on a desktop system.

Check the documentation that came with the new modem. Chances are it's a software based modem and must be installed using the software, rather than the Hardware Wizard. Check the box and system requirements. If the modem requires a certain minimum CPU speed, it's a software based, or winmodem. If it shows up in Device Manager under Modem, look for winmodem, HSF or HCF. Those are all software modems.

You should find installation instructions in the documentation or on the manufacturer's website. Generally you run the setup.exe or install.exe file in the drivers. Remove the modem from Device Manager first, in Safe Mode, and remove ALL modems found. In some cases you also have to physically rmove the modem from the motherboard, install the software, then physically install the modem.
