Just moved to XP Pro and everything(including the few other games I hav e loaded at this point) run fine. However when I try to run Max Payne the intro's are ok but when the game tries to load it just "goes back" to Windows. No errors, no crash, and the game is not running in the system. Has anybody run into this scenario? Thanks!

Supported Operating Systems:
Windows 95 (OSR2 or later), Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000.

Although Max Payne has been found to work on Windows XP, it has not been thoroughly tested and thus Windows XP is not officially supported. Additionally, Windows NT is not supported.

Max Payne requires Microsoft DirectX 8.0 or newer to be installed.

and a 3D accelerator that is compadable with DirectX 8.0 in order to run

have you upgraded your display drivers, as they may not be very mature at the time the operating system is released

you can test by DXDiag" application that comes with your system (Run->dxdiag; select Display tab, click on "Test Direct3D

Hopefully someone who playsgames will have an exact answer for you.

Oh yeah, I found with the GF4 card that shutting off active desktop will prevent crashing.

Thanks to both of you!

Ya know, active desktop is something I've thoroughly ignored in Windows. How do you shut it off?

To shut off active desktop, right click anywhere on your desktop (except an icon) and where it says active desktop make sure that "show web content" is NOT checked. This is for 98 and WinME, but I figure XP should be similar.

I think in XP you want to make sure "view active desktop" is UNchecked.

Actually 30.82 are the latest drivers, find them at Guru3d (www.guru3d.com).
