Hi I just got my new laptop last week and installed Win2kPro on it. It has a Raydeon 7500 video card. It seemed to work fine except for when I tried to run Dungeon Siege on it. Anyway when I run the game it works fine until I get to a certain part of the board then it gives me an error message that says the following:
"A fatal error has occured and the app must shut down.
Decoding error! Compressed data is either corrupt or unreadable, possibly due to hardware failure. Try replacing or repairing the resource file (reinstall?) to fix this problem.
File on disk : 'C:\Program files\Microsoft Games\Dungeon Siege\Resources\Terrain.dsres'
Internal info
resource=
are\bitmaps\terrains\abandonded_cave_1\wall\b_t_av
c01_wal_04x04-a.raw
offset=0x00e31968
size=87396
crc=0xB565DAFA8
last error=0x0000017"
I should also point out that I tried reinstalling it twice and still the problem persists. I also did a CRC check on the game files (as advised from Microsoft's website) and some of the files failed the check. So I then scanned my hard drive and defragmented it. I then reinstalled it again and ran the CRC check and it fialed again. Is this some kind of hard ware problem? My desktop that runs XP home edition runs the same game just fine. One difference between the desktop and the laptop is that my laptop is using the NTFS file system. Any suggestions would help.
Thanks,
