Ok I have a Maxtor 40K0H2, thats all i know about it, i cannont find anything on it, it came with my Compaq 5310US and i would like to know if you guys could tell me the RPMs? And heres the problem, im a amateur tweaker, i do a lil reg editting and I messa round with BIOS stuff and Just recently i have noticed A LOT of slow down when copying files to different places, and deleting large files, i dont know what the problem is, Before i started messing with things the transfer of files across the HDD was almost instant regardless of the size now its slowwwwweddd way down, and yes i defrag almost once a day, until it lists no file fragments, could it be a fragmented MTF, or a fragmented Page File?? I havent defragged my page file

Whoops Almost forgot with this HDD what Transfer Mode should i have it in??? In the Bios you can change it and right now its set at MAX DMA, what should it be set at??? There are three other choices, Enhanced DMA, PIO Mode (im pretty sure this is the slowest) and Ultra DMA what should it be on??

I believe your HDD is 5400 rpm. It is ATA 100, so set it at UDMA 5 in your bios. Here is a link for the drive where you can troubleshoot and download a diagnostics tool.
