I have an ibm thinkpad and when I type the letter a it comes up as a1 when i type the letter s it comes up as s2 and so on. This happens in both windows programs and the DOS prompt and i have no idea how to fix it. I would appreciate some help if anyone out there knows how i can fix it. Thanks, Dave

Have you had the computer apart?..its easy to get the keyboard ribben cable out of wack and it may need reset into its slot. If they still use those now a days. Been a really long time working with a laptop here.

Hi DCC99 and welcome to the PCGuide Forums.

Don't know if this is hardware, software or malware (all seem possible). Which OS are you actually using? Are there any applications in which this doesn't happen and are the 1,2,... suffixes continued with the whole QWERTY, ASDF sequences?

There are others around much better at hardware than me but I do know that there are such things as keboard mapping viruses that possibly could cause this - so it would be nice if this could be excluded. Can you manage to do an up-to-date scan with this problem; perhaps you could navigate to
Housecall (http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/) and get an on-line scan.

The only time I've actually seen anything resembling this was after my cell phone was dropped in water by one of my dogs! It was a quick immersion and I took it apart and dried everything out - but it's small "number keyboard" got very remapped!

Afterthought: if you have a USB port and could attach a USB keyboard, perhaps this would help eliminate certain areas.
